Frequently Asked Questions:

Who am I?

My name is Katrina Waterton and I graduated from George Brown College with a certificate Gemmology. I then went on to become a Fellow of the Canadian Gemmological Association (gemmologist) and a Registered Master Valuer (jewellery appraiser) through the Canadian Gemmological Association. Throughout my career in the jewellery industry, I have worked in various places including a local family owned jewellery store, a corporate jewellery store, as well as a prominent antique jewellery store. I have been excited about jewellery since I was a small girl, and enjoy bringing that excitement to work every day.

What do I do?

I buy, sell and appraise jewellery. I specialize in antique jewellery, and have been learning and researching jewellery history for years. I love that there is always something new to learn in this industry, and hearing stories from my customers teaches me something new each day.

Where do I source my pieces from?

I have been collecting jewellery since I was young, so a portion of what I have available is from that collection. I also buy jewellery from lovely people like you as well as sourcing pieces from the internet, auctions, and dealers. Thrifting has been a hobby of mine for a long time now, so if I am lucky, some of my pieces available are from estate sales, thrift stores, etc.

How do I value my items?

A lot of care goes into each piece I receive. I take the time to clean, inspect, repair or restore, and research each item. Raw materials such as metal content and gemstone are common factors, but manufacturers, provenance, and style can all affect the final price of a piece of jewellery.

But you offer new pieces too?

Yes, I do offer new pieces in my collection. I personally enjoy mixing the old with the new. Sometimes a new chain brings an old pendant back to life! My new pieces are mostly in sterling silver because I like to offer trendy pieces that don't break the bank (but sure make it look like you did)!
