Anchor Gold Fill Locket
- unmarked/unsigned
- constructed out of rolled gold plate front, brass with gold fill sides and glass
- one side of the locket features a hand engraved anchor surrounded by more hand engraved details
- ANCHOR: in Victorian symbolism, the anchor is the symbol of hope both in seafaring world and in the spiritual world when it is mixed with other symbols (ie: faith (cross), hope (anchor), and charity (heart). It is also a representation of security, stability and solace
- the other gold face of the locket features a beautifully engraved frame with a blank oval in the middle that would have been for an initial
- both sides of the locket have plenty of denting and one small crack along the side of the anchor due to age and locket being well worn and loved over 100 years ago
- on the inside of the locket behind the anchor is a lock of brown hair behind a cover of bevelled glass, perhaps someone lost at sea? (Has no creepy vibes I swear)
- the other bevelled glass cover unfortunately has a crack clear through it
- glass covers measure 2cm long x 1.5cm wide
- oval jump ring bail is god filled brass, not soldered shut, and has an opening of 5mm long x 3mm wide
- total length of locket including bail i s 3.6cm with a width of 2.3cm
- wear to gold fill along scalloped edges
- locket stays closed nicely but doesn't close with a click, and opens easily
- locket is in fair antique condition with lots of denting and wear, but it is so cool and hand engraved that it could definitely be worn today.
- late victorian ca 1870s-1890s
- box pictured is not included with purchase
